FAQ

  • What is the time commitment required for MKDC?

The time commitment for MKDC includes regular practices three times a week, each lasting 3-4 hours. In addition to these scheduled practices, we occasionally have extra sessions based on the needs of the team. We typically have one performance every three months, with three months of preparation for each performance. This schedule ensures that all members are well-prepared and able to perform at their best.

  • What styles of dance does MKDC specialize in?

MKDC specializes in performance-focused K-pop. Our foundation is K-pop choreography, but our priority is stage presence, charisma, and the overall vibe, not robotic perfection. We aim to do more than a clean cover, we want to capture the energy that makes a routine feel natural, confident, and unforgettable.

We focus on musicality and presence, how you carry yourself, how you connect with the audience, and how your personality comes through on stage. While synchronization matters, we care most about creating an immersive performance where each dancer’s aura adds to the full experience.

  • Do I need to come to all practices?

Yes, attending all practices is crucial for building team cohesion and ensuring everyone is on the same page. Regular attendance helps you improve your skills, learn choreography accurately, and be well-prepared for performances. Consistent participation also shows your commitment to the team. If you have any unavoidable conflicts, please communicate with the leader in advance.

  • Do I need previous dance experience to join MKDC?

Yes, previous dance experience is required to join MKDC. If you don't have prior experience, we recommend starting with MKDC Academy to build the basic skills needed. While professional experience is not necessary, you should have a foundation in K-pop dance basics. Advanced skill sets are not required, as we can teach you those through our training program.

  • Can I be in multiple dance teams?

No, we do not allow dual memberships in multiple dance teams. This policy ensures that all members can fully commit to MKDC's practice schedule and activities, maintaining focus and cohesion within the team. Prioritizing MKDC helps everyone perform their best and support their teammates effectively.

  • What is the cost of membership?

The cost of membership for MKDC is around $50 per month, but it can vary slightly each month. This fee helps cover the costs of training, facilities, and other team-related expenses.

  • How can I join MKDC?

We hold on-site auditions twice a year in the Spring and Fall, which we highly recommend as the best way to showcase your skills in person. We also actively recruit from MKDC Academy, where we observe students' development over time and invite those showing strong potential to private auditions. Additionally, online video submissions are technically open year-round, though please note that this path is significantly more difficult to clear than our semi-annual on-site auditions.

  • What happens if I miss a practice?

If you miss a practice, it is important to notify us in advance with a valid reason. Failure to do so may result in the termination of your membership. While occasional absences with proper notice are understandable, consistent attendance is crucial for the team's success.

  • How does MKDC incorporate feedback and improvement in practices?

At MKDC, we prioritize continuous improvement and growth. During practices, our producer provides constructive feedback to each dancer, focusing on both individual and team performance. We also encourage peer and self-feedback, fostering a collaborative environment where everyone can learn from each other. Additionally, we occasionally bring in older generation MKDC members to offer fresh perspectives.

  • What does MKDC look for when selecting members?

When selecting members, MKDC prioritizes personality and work ethic over dance skills. We believe that "working hard" is a talent in itself, and we're looking for individuals who are dedicated, reliable, and willing to put in the effort to improve. While a foundation in K-pop dance basics is essential, we value a positive attitude and a willingness to grind and push beyond comfort zones.

Team spirit is crucial, so we seek members who can collaborate effectively, support their teammates, and contribute positively to the team dynamic. We provide regular feedback and look for people who are open to constructive criticism, willing to try different approaches, and not get defensive about it. Performance skills, such as stage presence and the ability to engage an audience, are also important. Ultimately, we believe that with the right attitude and dedication, anyone can grow and excel as part of MKDC.

  • Are there any rules for MKDC members?

Yes. MKDC operates on a structured system, and all members are expected to uphold the team’s standards of discipline, responsibility, and respect.

Members are required to attend all scheduled practices and performances. If a member needs to miss a practice, they must notify the team in advance with a valid reason. Consistency and reliability are essential, as each member’s effort directly impacts the team.

Members are also expected to arrive on time, come prepared, follow directions from leadership, and remain open to feedback. Respect for teammates and the team environment is fundamental.

Additionally, MKDC members may not perform or represent themselves as part of other teams without prior permission. All public appearances must be approved, as MKDC operates under a managed system.

MKDC is not a casual activity. These standards exist to protect the team’s quality and environment, and members who are unable to uphold them may be removed from the team.

  • Why does MKDC have a 3-month trainee period?

MKDC operates on a structured system that requires a higher level of discipline, consistency, and accountability than most recreational teams. For this reason, all new members begin with a 3-month trainee period before becoming official members.

Many people start with strong motivation, but experiencing the actual training environment, including the intensity of practices, repetition, and the standards expected within the team, is very different from simply hearing about it. This period allows trainees to demonstrate their commitment through consistent behavior, work ethic, and attitude over time, not just initial interest.

The trainee period is also a time of mutual evaluation. MKDC evaluates whether the trainee is ready to uphold the team’s standards, and the trainee determines whether they are willing to embrace the discipline and responsibility that come with being part of MKDC.

Not everyone continues past this stage, but those who do have shown that they are ready to be part of the team not only in skill, but in mindset, commitment, and respect for the system.

  • Is MKDC a competitive team?

MKDC is not primarily a competition-focused team. Our main focus is on creating high-quality performances, developing strong performers, and presenting diverse concepts inspired by the K-pop industry.

Rather than training specifically for competitions, we focus on long-term growth, performance quality, and team development. This allows us to explore a wider range of styles and concepts without being limited to competition formats.

However, MKDC does not completely exclude competitions. When opportunities align with the team’s direction and readiness, we may choose to participate selectively. Competitions are approached as one of many possible performance opportunities, not the defining purpose of the team.

Our priority has always been to build skilled, disciplined performers and deliver meaningful performances, whether on stage, at events, or in competition settings.

  • What is the 3-month trainee period like?

The 3-month trainee period is a structured introduction to MKDC’s training system, standards, and culture. During this time, trainees attend regular practices, learn choreography, and experience the discipline, pace, and expectations of the team firsthand.

Trainees are expected to be punctual, focused, and open to feedback. Consistent effort, attitude, and willingness to improve are essential, as members are expected to grow through repetition, correction, and teamwork. This period is not about being perfect, but about showing commitment and the ability to adapt to the team’s standards.

The trainee period also serves as a mutual evaluation. MKDC evaluates whether the trainee is ready to uphold the team’s level of discipline and responsibility, and trainees determine whether they are ready to commit to the expectations that come with being part of MKDC.

MKDC’s system is not for everyone. Those who continue past the trainee period are those who have shown the mindset, work ethic, and commitment needed to be part of the team.
