MKDC specializes in performance-focused K-pop dance rather than one specific dance genre. Our repertoire includes choreography from girl groups, boy groups, and solo artists, allowing us to explore a wide range of musical styles, concepts, and performance qualities.

Choreographic accuracy and synchronization are important foundations of our training, but our work extends beyond reproducing movements. We also focus on musicality, formations, expression, stage presence, and how each performer connects with the audience.

Our goal is to create cohesive and polished stages that preserve the energy and identity of the original choreography while allowing each member’s individual presence to contribute to the full performance.

MKDC is not primarily a competition-focused team. Our main focus is on creating high-quality performances, developing strong performers, and presenting diverse concepts inspired by the K-pop industry.

Rather than training specifically for competitions, we focus on long-term growth, performance quality, and team development. This allows us to explore a wider range of styles and concepts without being limited to competition formats.

However, MKDC does not completely exclude competitions. When opportunities align with the team’s direction and readiness, we may choose to participate selectively. Competitions are approached as one of many possible performance opportunities, not the defining purpose of the team.

Our priority has always been to build skilled, disciplined performers and deliver meaningful performances, whether on stage, at events, or in competition settings.

MKDC Academy is an educational program created for members of the general public who want to learn K-pop dance. Academy classes allow students to develop their dance skills, learn K-pop choreography, and experience MKDC’s training approach without being members of the performance team.

MKDC is a performance team made up of selected members who train and perform together. Members join through a separate audition or recruitment process and are expected to meet the team’s standards for commitment, discipline, teamwork, and performance.

Participating in MKDC Academy does not automatically make someone an MKDC member. Academy students who demonstrate strong potential may occasionally be invited to audition, but joining the performance team requires a separate selection process.

MKDC uses a generation system to identify the team cycle in which each member joined. A member’s generation is based on when they officially entered the team and remains the same throughout their time with MKDC. The system helps document MKDC’s history and how the team has evolved since its founding in 2013.

A new generation generally begins around September, but the cutoff is not tied to a fixed calendar date. In years when the Midwest K-Pop Festival (MKF) was held, the generation typically changed after the festival. Because MKF has taken place at different times of the year, including as early as June, the exact transition date has varied. In years when MKF was not held, the transition followed MKDC’s annual team cycle, generally around September.

For this reason, a member’s generation cannot always be determined by calendar year alone. Members who joined near a transition period are assigned to a generation based on MKDC’s official team cycle and the timing of that year’s MKF, when applicable.

A generation represents when a member joined MKDC. It does not represent their skill level, importance, or position within the team.

“Juniors” simply indicates that the member is under the age of 18. It does not represent a separate team, generation, skill level, or position within MKDC.

MKDC is available for K-pop performances, dance workshops, corporate events, festivals, schools, universities, cultural programs, and selected brand collaborations in Minnesota and across the United States. Booking inquiries can be submitted through the Book MKDC page.

All candidates selected to join MKDC begin with a 3-month trainee period before becoming official members. During this time, trainees attend regular practices, learn choreography, and experience the team’s training pace, standards, and culture firsthand. They are expected to be punctual, focused, reliable, and open to feedback.

An audition can show a person’s current skills and potential, but it cannot show how they work with others or respond to expectations over time. The trainee period allows MKDC to evaluate each trainee’s consistency, attitude, adaptability, teamwork, and willingness to improve. It also gives trainees an opportunity to decide whether MKDC’s level of commitment is right for them.

Completing the three months does not automatically guarantee official membership. Trainees who consistently demonstrate the work ethic, growth, responsibility, and mindset expected by MKDC may be invited to continue as official members.

MKDC members are expected to attend all scheduled practices and performances. Regular practices are held three times a week and typically last 3 to 4 hours. Additional practices may be scheduled depending on the needs of the team and upcoming performances.

MKDC typically prepares for one performance over a period of approximately three months. Consistent attendance is essential because each member affects formations, choreography, and the overall readiness of the team.

If an unavoidable conflict occurs, members must notify the team leader as early as possible. Occasional absences with advance notice may be accommodated, but repeated absences or missing practices without communication may affect continued membership.

No, we do not allow dual memberships in multiple dance teams. This policy ensures that all members can fully commit to MKDC's practice schedule and activities, maintaining focus and cohesion within the team. Prioritizing MKDC helps everyone perform their best and support their teammates effectively.

At MKDC, we prioritize continuous improvement and growth. During practices, our producer provides constructive feedback to each dancer, focusing on both individual and team performance. We also encourage peer and self-feedback, fostering a collaborative environment where everyone can learn from each other. Additionally, we occasionally bring in older generation MKDC members to offer fresh perspectives.

Yes. MKDC operates as a managed performance team, and all members are expected to uphold the team’s standards of discipline, responsibility, professionalism, and respect.

Members are expected to arrive on time and prepared, follow directions from team leadership, and treat teammates, instructors, event partners, and venues with respect. They are also expected to contribute to a focused and supportive environment during practices, performances, and other team activities.

Performances, collaborations, interviews, and other public appearances that involve or represent MKDC must receive prior approval from team leadership. Members are also expected to conduct themselves professionally whenever they appear publicly as representatives of the team.
